How to Compare Air Mattresses
As any smart shopper knows, comparison shopping is a surefire way to find the best product at the best price. This is true for most every product, including air mattresses. But what should you look for in a good air mattress? When you compare air mattresses, there are several features you should be on the lookout for. First, think about why you are purchasing the mattress. A mattress you are planning to use outdoors, for example, will need to be more durable than a mattress you will be using indoors.
Either way, a sturdy base is important. The base should be waterproof, especially if you will be using your mattress outside. Durability is important, because you don't want the foundation being punctured by any materials on the ground. You will find some air mattresses have a bit of texture on the bottom. This adds additional stability and makes the mattress less susceptible to punctures. Many mattresses are made for both indoor and outdoor use, which provides for the most flexibility and usefulness. This means you can take your mattress virtually everywhere, which is certainly an attractive feature if you travel a lot.
When doing your comparisons, another feature to look for is ease of portability. Most people buy air mattresses to use while camping or to take with them when staying with friends or relatives. If you'll be transporting your mattress, you need to choose something that folds or rolls up easily and is fairly lightweight. The last thing you want is something you are unable to tote around. Be sure to find out the weight of the folded air mattress so you'll know if you can comfortably lift and carry it. You'll want to select something that folds or rolls up to a small, compact form so that it can be carried in a backpack or the trunk of your vehicle.
Yet another characteristic you will want to look for when you compare air mattresses is how easy the mattress is to inflate. This shouldn't be a big issue, as the majority of air mattresses on the market today come complete with pump. Some pumps are powered by electric, while others are manually powered. While the electric style pumps are going to be less work for you, it may be difficult or impossible to plug them in if you're camping. For outdoor excursions, a manually powered pump is probably best.
